About

Kohl Terry is from Denver, Colorado, and still finds home in the mountains. Growing up, he studied under museum-curated artist Duke Beardsley and later attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he earned a combined degree in business and studio art. He currently lives and works in New York City.
When first learning to write, Kohl did so mirrored, right-to-left, bottom-to-top. This way of processing has forever shaped his approach to art as a mode to explore how he sees, mis-sees, remembers, and reinterprets. While his work is rooted in realism and careful observation, Kohl embraces experimentation to find fresh tracks, letting some forms emerge through gestural and intuitive marks, while deliberately shaping and placing others. The balance shifts from piece to piece, keeping things interesting (at least for him!).
